Flu Prevention & Treatment
PREPARATION FOR FLU SEASON
Working from the inside out…
In preparing for the 2009 Flu Season,
consider the following list of
supplements to build and boost your
immune system:
NOTE: Dosing recommendations are for adult only; contact us for children
and infant dosing.
1. Fundamentals:
a. Therapeutic Vitamin/Mineral
combination, gender & age specific
b. Some source of essential fatty
acids, Omega oils (EPA/DHA); 3-Gm/day
c. Hydration – half your body weight
in oz of fluid per day; that’s usually 2-3
quart of water, juices,
teas, coffee.
d. Rest – 8-10 hours of restful
sleep nightly; this is the time that our bodies repair & rejuvenate.
2. Immune Boosters - Use a supplement
specifically formulated to build and boost the immune system-
a. Astra-8 (Health Concerns): dose
6-tablets daily during September-October-November; adjust dosage to
9-tablets
during December-January-February.
b. FuZheng Tonic, alcohol reduced,
for children (contact use for dosing) See “Deep Immune Building”
3. Zinc
a. Zinc-Tally Test – Try this
“spit” test to see if you can taste any zinc mental; if not, your
levels are too low; if it’s
yucky, your levels are likely adequate.
b. Zinc supplement: 30-50.mg daily
with food/meals
4. Vitamin-D – Flu is generally a
seasonal disease, outbreaks increase in late winter as vitamin-D levels
decline; outbreaks
decrease in summer when vitamin-D
levels rise. Exposure to UV rays from sun light triggers vitamin-D
production in the
skin, and this in turn protects
against flu infection. People make vitamin-D in the summer and use it
up during winter.
By late winter many people are
deficient. Experts believe that’s why virus infections worsen during
the winter months.
a. Vitamin-D3 – Standard dosing is
2000.IUnits daily; current recommendations specific for the flue
season are now
4-10,000.IUnits/Daily, (minimum of 50,000.units
per week) taken with food/meals.
5. Vitamin-A – mixed carotenoids,
25,000.IU daily, 5-days each week; take with food/meals.
6. NAC – N-acetyl-cysteine –
provides body with cysteine, raw material needed to make glutathione,
the main antioxidant
used within cells to reduce
oxidative damage.
a. NAC – 600.mg dosed 2-3 times
daily.
7. Probiotics – not specifically
anti-virals, but their presence within the gut supports a strong immune
function.
8. Herbs –
a. Elderberry, Boneset, Echinacea,
Garlic, olive leaf, Neem, Tea Tree - these herbs are considered
anti-virals,
boost the immune system, and have a long
history of successfully reducing symptoms and discomfort of flu.

Adaptogens:
they assist the body in dealing with
physical & environmental stress.
